What is Family Friendly Utah?
Family Friendly Utah is a smartphone app that connects families to a multitude of family friendly events and destinations in their community. The app is broken into four sections, outlined in detail below.
Did you know that Harry Potter stopped by the Target in Salt Lake City to delight children at a reading event? Or that Home Depot regularly hosts hands-on, educational workshops for children? These are just a couple examples of the wide variety of events happening along the Wasatch Front that many parents aren't aware of.
The Events Calendar is designed to keep families in the know, by being populated with events from many sources. Users can hide events from sources they are not interested in, show only free events, and can filter events by distance. Users even have the option to add their own events!
Examples of events and sources:
- Activities at public libraries
- Activities at parks, Wheeler Farm, Clark Planetarium
- Activities sponsored by community organizations
- Activities at Hogle Zoo, Living Planet Aquarium, Tracy Aviary
- Circuses and Carnivals
- Yard Sales
- Carwash fundraisers
- Bake Sales
The Destinations section is designed to help families find what they are looking for.
There are over 150 public parks in Salt Lake County. Some larger parks are well-known, but many of the smaller parks are not. Different parks have different features and amenities, and it can be difficult to find the right one for you. Family Friendly Utah has a list of parks, which is searchable by amenities and features, such as:
- Restrooms and/or Baby Changing Stations
- Potable Water
- Splash Pad
- Type of Playground
- Amount of shade on the playground at midday
- Distance from user
An example of a user search could be: Display all parks with bathrooms rated 4 stars or higher within 5 miles.
